James H. Hara, 78, a longtime resident of Ridgefield , CT, peacefully passed away on April 30, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his three children.
Born in Shizuoka, Japan, he launched his career in estimating/repair subsequently building ocean-going bulk carriers, around the bay of Sasebo, Japan.
Two decades-plus later in the heavy industry, he was employed by Skaarup Shipping Corporation of Greenwich CT. With a few years of residency in Greenwich, he acquired a house in Ridgefield, and has been there since July 1984.
After devoting all his effort in his career as a naval architect, and raising a family, he became a widower with the departure of his wife, Sumiko Hara, in 2008. He is now survived by son, Shuichi “Shu,” daughter Hideko “Heidi,” and son Hidenobu “Harry.”
The service will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut.
