Anthony M. D’Aiuto

Anthony M. D’Aiuto, 90, of Thorndale, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014, at his residence. He was the loving husband of the late Beatrice Briskin D’Aiuto, with whom he had shared 51 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 1999.

Born in Derby, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Scarpa D’Aiuto.

Mr. D’Aiuto served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946, earning the rank of Electrician’s Mate 2nd Class. He survived numerous wartime campaigns in the Pacific Theater as a proud crew member on the USS Independence CVL-22.

He was employed as a stagehand on Broadway for over 50 years and was a 50 year member of Local 1 of IATSE.

He was a wine connoisseur and enjoyed cooking and traveling in his spare time.

Mr. D’Aiuto is survived by his children, Patrice E. Hayes (John) of Downingtown and Todd J. D’Aiuto (Deirdre) of Ridgefield, CT.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin Hayes, Marie, Christina and Elizabeth D’Aiuto; and his companion, Angie McClelland. He was predeceased by a brother, George D’Aiuto, and a sister, Rosemarie Terra.

Interment service will be held at noon on Wednesday, May 14th, in the Chapel at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, 219 New Haven Ave, Derby, CT 06418.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to The U.S. Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 123, Washington, DC  20004.
