The Ridgefield Rotary Club and the Marine Corps League have invited Ridgefield residents to participate in a program of displaying the United States flag on six major holidays each year.

Proceeds from Fly the Colors will be used to benefit veterans and their families.

Rotary and Marines will purchase, display, pick up, store and maintain the flags, which are the property of the Rotary Club.

Flags will remain in place from Memorial Day, through Flag Day and the Fourth of July, and will be re-installed for Labor Day, Patriots Day and Veterans Day.

A plastic pipe will be buried in the yard permanently, flush with the ground, to hold the flag staff in place. A plastic cap will cover the pipe when not in use. A marker will be put in the street to indicate the location of the buried pipe. A 3×5 foot flag on a 10 foot staff will be placed in the holder.

Fly the Colors is an annual, subscription-based service. The first year costs $40; thereafter, it is $25 per year.

A renewal notice will be sent each spring unless the club is notified in writing of withdrawal from the program.

Registration is by form with check payable to Ridgefield Rotary Foundation, or online with credit card at www.ridgefieldrotary.org.

Homeowners must provide notice of underground installations such as a sprinkler system or invisible dog fence near the curb.
