Daniel Everett

Dan Kenison Everett, Sr., 93, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Ridgefield, CT, passed away peacefully at The Suites at Walnut Creek on August 8, 2013.

Dan was born May 14, 1920 to Nelle and Harry Everett in Emporia, KS.  He attended Emporia State Teachers College in Kansas and later enrolled at Curtis Wright Aeronautical School after serving in the Army Air Core in 1944.

He met the love of his life, Mary Joan Everett, to whom he was married for 56 years by the time of her death in 1997.

Dan had a long successful career in book buying and publishing, having worked for Lazarus Department Store in Columbus, OH, for 30 years before moving to Connecticut where he worked for WaldenBooks as a buyer and later retired from W.H. Smith in New York City.

Dan was preceded in death by his sister, JoAnn Douglas, his brother, Donn Everett, his son-in-law, Dr. James Wasserman and his great grandchild, Jacob Wasserman.   He will be sadly missed by his wife, Charlene Melia, his loving companion of 14 years.

Dan’s large family will remember him forever  for his wit, charm and affection.

Dan is survived by six children:  James Everett (Ruth) of Dublin, OH, Barbara Wasserman(late, Dr. James Wasserman) of Cincinnati, OH, Christine Mitchell (James) of Naples, FL, Dan Everett, Jr. (Danita) of Tony, WI, Janet Sommer (John) of Redding, CT and Douglas Everett (Robyn)of Mesa, AZ.  He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and stepchildren.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Dayton, OH.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church 6666 Springboro Pike in Miamisburg, OH on Monday, August 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will follow the service at David’s Cemetery in Kettering, OH.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the compassion and loving care provided by The Suites at Walnut Creek and Destiny Hospice.
