Margaret Mary DeForest, age 65, died in her home in Bethel, CT, on Saturday, Sept, 26th 2015 after a 13 1/2 year battle with cancer. Lee DeForest, her loving husband of 42 years, was by her side.
Born February 7, 1950, in Norwalk CT, to the late Louis and Juliana (Mahoney) Hoelscher, she lived from birth until 2010 in Ridgefield, CT., where she graduated from St. Mary’s School and Ridgefield High School. Immediately after graduation from the Berkeley School, Margaret began work at AMAX in NYC and Greenwich, CT, where she remained for a long career, eventually becoming an import-export manager. In that position she was in charge of the movement of molybdenum from AMAX mines in Colorado to ports all over the world.
Margaret will be remembered for her love for and support of her family, her ability to make others laugh, her quick wit, her indefatigable spirit, and last but not least, her love for her husband, home and cats. As a staunch Democrat, Margaret also enjoyed verbal sparring with any Republicans that she met.
In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by her siblings, Patricia Botticelli (and husband, Bruce), The Villages, FL., Sheilah Hoelscher (and partner, Mary), Somerville, MA., Louis Hoelscher, Danbury, CT., Rosemary Hoelscher, New Milford, CT., Paul Hoelscher (and partner, Karen), Ridgefield, CT., and Ann-Marie Hoelscher, Danbury, CT. Margaret was predeceased by her brother Michael Hoelscher. Margaret is also survived by nephews, Bradford Schalkham (and wife, Margaret), Newtown, CT., Gregory Schalkham (and partner, Stephanie), Danbury, CT., and Matthew Schalkham, Danbury, CT., as well as her adored grandniece and grandnephews, Ava, Thomas, and Ryan Schalkham.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are welcome and can be sent to either Praxair Cancer Center, Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT. 06810 or Regional Hospice and Homecare of Western CT., 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT. 06810.
Many thanks to the staff of Praxair Cancer Center and most especially to Dr. Robert Kloss for all their support and care over the years.
