Wilbur “Bill” Gearity passed away peacefully on September 12, 2015 at Middlebury Convalescent Home. Bill was the loving husband of Enid Gearity, who predeceased him. Bill and Enid had a long, loving marriage, lasting almost 70 years. Bill and Enid lived in Ridgefield, Newtown and most recently, Heritage Village in Southbury during their 43 years in Connecticut.
Bill was born on January 8, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Micheal and Lillie Gearity. He was an aircraft mechanic during WWII and an accountant for IBM for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Bill was an avid handball player and played well into his 70’s competitively. Bill is survived by his three daughters, Patricia of Asheville, NC, Cathy and her husband John of Deer Park, NY and Lee Anne of Simsbury, CT. as well as his son, Richard and his wife, Kelly, of Woodbury, CT. and his daughter-in-law, Sunita Gearity of Fairfax, VA. Bill was predeceased by his oldest son, James, of Fairfax, VA.
Bill was also the proud and loving grandfather of eight grandchildren, John Bory and his wife Carolyn, Matthew Bory, Genevieve, Ryan and Caitlyn Gearity, Sara, Lyndsay and Megan Candito and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Bory.
Bill’s family would like to gratefully acknowledge the superior care our father received at Middlebury Convalescent Home as well as the wonderful staff at The Hearth in Southbury.
