Paul A. Camarda Sr. died peacefully at Putnam Hospital in Carmel NY on Sunday January 26, 2014 surrounded by family.
He was a handsome 92 years old.
A resident of Heritage Hills in Somers, NY and surrounded by wonderful neighbors; Paul could often be found sitting on his deck taking the sun, overlooking the golf course.
Paul is predeceased by the “love of his life” of 57 years, Mary Camarda whom he married on February 4th, 1951. Paul & Mary loved to dance- many would say that they “glided” on the dance floor and were a joy to watch!
The last surviving uncle in his immediate Family, Paul is also predeceased by his brothers Teddy and Tony as well as, adoring sisters Nancy, Mary & Lina.
He is also survived by three children.
Paul A. Camarda Jr. and daughter-in-law Marilyn Camarda of Ridgefield, CT Emilia Procops and son-in-law Tony Procops of Bedford NY and Angela Camarda of Westport CT.
He will be missed by his four grand-children; Paul & Scott Procops and
Paul & Jessica Camarda; whom he loved very much.
Paul was the youngest of 6 children, born to Emilia & Nunzio Camarda in Brooklyn, NY. In his 20’s, Paul loved to ride horses, ski and go to the local dance hall with his friends. He was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Pace University in NY, while working multiple jobs to support his family during the Great Depression.
He served as a Communication Specialist in the War and would often talk about Morse Code. After his discharge from the U.S. Army, Paul became an Accountant and then ascended up the Corporate ladder to become a Business Executive and President of a large corporation, Avalon Industries.
After his retirement he enjoyed reading, listening to Fox News and watching old time, classic cowboy movies.
He loved music — Sinatra, Dean, the BIG Bands and Disco.
Paul’s favorite song was “Smile” and he often sang it to get himself going on rough days; which were many. Despite struggling with a multitude of health issues, Paul always managed to stay positive and maintain his sharp sense of humor. While his body failed him, his mind did not.
Sharp as a tack, he was quick-witted and always made you laugh!
From the generation where “integrity” was big, Paul was a true gentleman. He was wise, yet humble; a kind, generous, fair and compassionate man.
He was loved by many and will be laid to rest at Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich CT, along side his wife, Mary where they will be together again.
Friends may call upon Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home – 31 Arch St., Greenwich, CT on Thursday January 30, 2014 from 5 PM-9 PM. A funeral mass will take place Friday January 31, 2014 at 10AM at St. Mary’s Parish – 178 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich, CT. Entombment will follow at Putnam cemetery.
