Bryan S. McCarthy, 45, of Boulder, Colorado, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Boulder Community Hospital.
Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and raised in nearby Colts Neck, Bryan moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut, with his family in 1981.
He graduated from Fairfield University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. While in college, Bryan, an accomplished ski racer and avid golfer, worked as a sales associate and buyer at Outdoor Sports Center in Wilton, CT, and served as a Junior Development ski team coach at Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, VT, and later as head coach of the Darien (CT) High School Ski Team.
Upon graduation, Bryan dedicated his professional career to marketing-related activities. He would go on to combine his early experience at market research firms Target Management and Morgan-Horan and his passion for cycling to become Director of Marketing at Spinergy, Inc., a high performance bicycle wheel maker, by the age of 29.
In 1998, Bryan moved west, initially to San Francisco, where he first worked in advertising sales for the publications and websites of Bicycling and Mountain Bike. In 2003, he was recruited to Radar Communications in Boulder, Colorado, where he contributed to the firm’s focus of better understanding consumer behavior through novel market research. In 2007, Radar was acquired by the advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B).
Following the acquisition, Bryan became Director of Partnership Development at CP+B, where he worked until last year. Bryan also recently served on the Board of Directors of Boulder B-cycle, a nonprofit, community bike sharing program.
In his personal life, Bryan was devoted to his family and proved to be a loyal and steadfast friend to many from every facet of his life. Bryan’s commitment to building long-standing relationships carried over to his profession where he was viewed as a potent networker and impactful collaboration partner.
Bryan is survived by his father Denis M. McCarthy and mother Linda H. McCarthy of Wellesley, MA, as well as his sister, Kerry McCarthy Adams and her husband Gideon Adams of Cary, NC, and his brother Kevin M. McCarthy and wife Shannon of Seattle, WA.
